We’ve been working on the command “Bath Time!” Gizmo is already good with it but it was totally new for Widget. It took about one meal’s worth of food but she will run and jump into the tub from anywhere in the apartment :)

And of course, I need to post about Gizmo!  He was our first puppy and as someone who has always been acquired by a dog and never bought a puppy before, I was against the idea.  I didn’t think I would be able to handle all the work and stress that goes into training a pup and wanted to go to a shelter for an experienced puppy.  But my husband being the guy that he is was able to convince me that we could handle it.  So after a few months of looking around we drove out to the boonies in Maryland.  He was the last of his litter and he immediately charmed his way into my heart.

When getting a puppy for the first time I expected to have an adorable ball of fluff that would love me unconditionally and follow me everywhere.  While that is the case with Widget, Gizmo made sure we knew he was his own pup.  He was very independent and while he was easy to train and an all around awesome guy, he was also one of the most peculiar dogs I’d ever met.

Since the day we brought him home he has been the biggest weenie on the planet.  He’s afraid of everything from the food container to the mailboxes outside.  He can play brave and will valiantly boof at the squirrels/kids/wind blowing outside from the comfort of a window or behind a door, but once greeted with these things he was very likely to create a puddle.  Thankfully he had started to grow out of the “terrified pee puddle creation” as he grew up but he is still tragically wimpy.  He’s also cuddly, but only when he thinks we’re not paying attention or when we are sleeping.  He’s very much like that teenage kid that doesn’t want Mom or Dad to hug him in front of his friends.

Gizmo is quite the character and I don’t know what I’d do without him.  Although I could live without the awful dutch ovens he has given me over the years.  He is quite the amazing sausagefox!

As this blog was created a little late and Mr. Giz is pretty sure his birthday should be celebrated year round, so a belated blog birthday to Gizmo!  He turned 3 on November 30th!  I’ll make a longer post later today about him, but his birthday was filled with playtime and a brand new bully stick just for him!
